Georgia May Jagger on her new skincare line: 'my family are my guinea pigs'

Considering Georgia May Jagger has spent much of her life on photography sets, it’s no surprise that the model has become quite the beauty expert. However, she didn’t just learn the ropes while fronting campaigns for Mugler and walking Chanel runways, but from her family; lest we forget she’s the daughter of Rolling Stones frontman Mick Jagger and supermodel Jerry Hall.

"A core beauty memory of mine is seeing my mum getting ready and playing around her bathroom. She’s never been into having loads of facials or treatments, she does a lot of things herself — like moisturise with olive oil and make her own scrubs,” says Jagger in her eighth-floor suite at the new One Hotel, before her debut skincare line, May Botanicals, was launched this week.

“My sister Lizzie also always had the best new products and would give me facials in my teens when I was suffering with spots,” she adds. Even older brother Jimmy bought her a cryo ball. “It was the Teresa Tarmey one and I was like, ‘Jimmy how did you figure this out?’”

The past few years have seen Jagger, 31, become an investor in and co-owner of the Bleach London salon and an organic skincare brand was, to her, the obvious next step.

As someone who suffered from dry skin, synthetic ingredients tended to make Jagger more hypersensitive, which led her to the organic world. “I was like, ‘Wow, okay, these do really work,’” she says. Impressed with the results, her friends asked for recommendations. “Before long we had this weird little club, where I was like okay, this is something I want to do.”

This was four years ago, and now she has finally launched her five-piece collection of dermatologically tested products made from ethically sourced, natural ingredients. On offer: a kelp seaweed sheet mask (“I call it a mermaid facial”), daily dose moisturiser, cleanser, a multipurpose balm that can double up as a highlighter — and my favourite, an emergency breakout solution made with green clay, witch hazel, organic tea tree oil and natural salicylic acid to draw out impurities.

“I want to establish that organic beauty actually works,” she says.

You’ll also never see the words anti-ageing associated with the products, a percentage of profits will go to WWF, and all the packaging is 100% recycled.

Each product also features a striking illustration of Jagger, courtesy of buzzy London designer Matty Bovan. The two met at one of his earliest London Fashion Week shows, which Jagger walked in. “I actually meant for him to do a picture of him, which he usually does,” she laughs, adding, “but of course I love it.”

There were “a lot of guinea pigs” for her formulations: “Of course, my mum has been using it for a while. My sisters — it got the stamp of approval from them. All my friends.” Pixie Geldof, Cora Corré, Kesewa Aboah, Andreas Kronthaler and David Koma all swung by the launch drinks reception.

Jagger says: “Each product has been made with so much care, love and attention, and are deeply personal to me, so I just hope they connect with people.”
