Georgia football’s spring cornerback depth chart

This spring, the Georgia Bulldogs will be replacing their No. 1 cornerback, Kamari Lassiter, from last season. Lassiter is expected to be a second-round pick in the 2024 NFL draft. Georgia junior cornerback Daylen Everette figures to be Georgia’s top cornerback this fall. Everette started all 14 games for Georgia in 2023 and is a former elite recruit/

Georgia is also replacing former five-star recruit AJ Harris. Last year, Harris saw significant snaps for the Dawgs, especially early in the season, before transferring to Penn State in December.

Georgia signed another stout recruiting class at cornerback. The Bulldogs signed the nation’s No. 1 cornerback in Ellis Robinson, who could see immediate playing time in Athens. Let’s take a look at Georgia’s depth chart at cornerback after a few days of spring practice.

Incoming freshman: Ondre Evans

The Tennessean

Year: Freshman

Ondre Evans is a pure cornerback for the Bulldogs. Look for him to play on the outside this spring as he adjusts to college life as an early enrollee.

Recruiting ranking: Four-stars

Incoming freshman: KJ Bolden

Year: Freshman

For the purpose of this depth chart, Bolden would play at STAR. He is also a candidate to play safety. We’ll see how it unfolds this spring.

Recruiting ranking: Five-stars

Incoming freshman: Demello Jones

Online Athens

Year: Freshman

Jones, an early enrollee, could be an option at both cornerback and safety. “Demello (Jones) is dealing with a little bit of a hamstring sprain,” said Kirby Smart.

Recruiting ranking: Four-stars

STAR No. 3: Kyron Jones

Dale Zanine-USA TODAY Sports

Year: Redshirt Freshman

Kyron Jones is probably Georgia’s No. 2 STAR this spring. With David Daniel-Sisavanh starting at safety due to Malaki Starks absence, Jones has an opportunity to get extra reps this spring.

2023 stats: one interception returned for a touchdown

Outside No. 5: Chris Peal

Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

Year: Redshirt Freshman

Peal played in one game last season, picking up a redshirt. He dealt with a toe injury in 2023 and has recently practiced with a noncontact jersey on.

2023 stats: one tackle

STAR No. 2: David Daniel-Sisavanh

Dale Zanine-USA TODAY Sports

Year: Senior

This is the toughest position to decide on Georgia’s defensive depth chart. Daniel-Sisavanh could easily start at safety for Georgia and is seeing a lot of reps there this spring. With Malaki Starks hurt this spring, Georgia’s safeties room is a little bit thin right now. When it comes time for the fall, Daniel-Sisavanh will see snaps at safety or STAR. Two other options at STAR are Kyron Jones and KJ Bolden.

2023 stats: 10 tackles and one pass deflection

Outside No. 4: Ellis Robinson

Sarasota Herald-Tribune

Year: Freshman

Ellis Robinson has the talent to start right away for Georgia. Robinson is still adjusting to college as an early enrollee. He figures to be one of Georgia’s top coverage options, but is not as refined against the run at this stage in his career.

Recruiting ranking: Five-stars

Outside No. 3: Daniel Harris

Year: Sophomore

Harris is another Georgia cornerback that contemplated entering the transfer portal after the 2023 season. Harris played in six games as a freshman including the Orange Bowl against Florida State. He figures to compete for the starting cornerback role with Julian Humphrey.

2023 stats: One tackle

STAR No. 1: Joenel Aguero

Joshua L Jones/Online Athens

Year: Redshirt Sophomore

Aguero could also be a factor in Georgia’s safety room. Aguero is a former prized recruit that brings a lot of physicality (5-foot-11, 205-pounds) to the Georgia secondary.

2023 stats: seven tackles, one blocked punt and one pass deflection

Outside No. 2: Julian Humphrey

Year: Redshirt Sophomore

Julian Humphrey had a standout game in Georgia’s 2023 home win against Missouri. Humphrey ran track in high school and is an excellent athlete. He contemplated entering the transfer portal after the 2023 season, but ultimately elected to return to Georgia and should be in-line for a starting role, but will face significant competition for snaps.

2023 stats: 11 tackles and one pass deflection

Outside No. 1: Daylen Everette

Year: Junior

Everette played in all 14 games last season as a starter. We’d expect the 6-foot-1, 190-pound cornerback to be Georgia’s top cover man this year. Everette is a former five-star recruit.

2023 stats: 29 tackles, six pass deflections and an interception
