A total of 12 voting locations in Georgia will have their hours extended due to bomb threats, as confirmed by Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger. Additionally, three more polling locations will have extended hours due to other reasons.
The affected areas include six polling locations in DeKalb County, five in Fulton County, and one in Gwinnett County, all of which are part of the Atlanta suburbs. Two polling locations in Cobb County and one in Glynn County will also have their hours extended due to bomb threats.
Raffensperger revealed that all bomb threats against polling places in Georgia are believed to have originated from Russia. Despite this, he emphasized the importance of public safety and ensuring that the threats do not hinder the voting process.
Furthermore, Raffensperger announced that a record number of over 5.2 million people are expected to vote in Georgia, reflecting an unprecedented voter turnout in the state. He expressed satisfaction with the high level of voter engagement.
Under a new state law, counties are now required to report their election results within one hour of polls closing. Raffensperger highlighted that this will significantly expedite the result-reporting process compared to previous elections, which he views as a positive development.
