The SEC champion Georgia Bulldogs are the No. 2 seed in the College Football Playoff bracket. Georgia will play the winner of the first-round game between the No. 10 seed Indiana Hoosiers and No. 7 seed Notre Dame Fighting Irish. Indiana and Notre Dame will play on Dec. 20 or Dec. 21.
Georgia will play in the playoff quarterfinal. UGA is expected to play in the Allstate Sugar Bowl in New Orleans on New Year’s Day at 8:45 p.m. ET.
Georgia needs time to recover following their 22-19 SEC championship victory over the Texas Longhorns. Most notably, Georgia quarterback Carson Beck left the SEC championship with what appeared to be an elbow injury.
Georgia relied on back up quarterback Gunner Stockton in the SEC championship and will be able to give Stockton valuable practice reps if Beck is out.
If Georgia wins the in the quarterfinals, then UGA will play SMU, Penn State or Boise State in the semifinals. Georgia got a pretty good draw in the playoff bracket that appears to be more favorable than the No. 1 seed Oregon Ducks’ draw.
