Georgia Bulldog DB named one of the most surprising transfer departures

Former Georgia Bulldog defensive back Julian Humphrey was one of the most surprising departures of this transfer period (so far), according to an Instagram post by Grant Hughes of 247Sports.

It was a big surprise to many when Humphrey announced his desire to transfer due to the timing. Georgia was fresh off an insane eight-overtime win against Georgia Tech and the Bulldogs were gearing up for the SEC championship game.

However, Humphrey had been losing playing time to Daniel Harris and Joenel Aguero. After the Texas game, he never had more than 30 snaps in a game (according to PFF premium, subscription needed). As a result, the sophomore entered the transfer portal looking for a starting job at corner.

In that regard, his decision was not that shocking. Humphrey’s timing was the more surprising aspect of his choice.

He was the third-best corner to enter the portal in this cycle, according to 247Sports. He landed with SEC rival Texas A&M on Dec. 15. The Aggies’ passing defense gave up the 33rd lowest passer rating to quarterbacks, but it needs a replacement for senior standout corner Brian Mayes.
