George Stanger attracts Dundee and Partick Thistle transfer attention as Championship duo set to battle it out

Dundee and Partick Thistle are both wanting to sign defender George Stanger.

The former Hamilton centre-back is currently with League One play-off pushers Alloa Athletic, where he has impressed after dropping down into part-time football. The Championship sides are keeping an eye on the New Zealand international who has been excelling under the guidance of Alloa boss Brian Rice.

The 22-year-old had previously played under him in South Lanarkshire and he is keen to take the step back up to full-time football again. Alloa are back fighting towards promotion territory in the third tier, where it looks as if Dunfermline will win the league on current course while Falkirk sit as play-off favourites alongside whoever finishes ninth in the second tier. Stanger could even find himself at the Premiership table next season, should either of his interested parties fulfil their ambitions of promotion come the spring. Dundee are in the title mix under Gary Bowyer.

Queen's Park though have the advantage in the Championship's first spot. Thistle meanwhile are undergoing a late push for the play-offs under new boss Kris Doolan after faltering under predecessor Ian McCall.
