George Kittle reveals what changes he would like to see if the NFL extends the season to an 18-game schedule

As soon as the NFL moved to a 17-game schedule in 2021, there were immediate questions about when the league would increase the schedule again to 18 games.

In an appearance on The Rich Eisen Show, George Kittle spoke about the potential of an 18-game season and what changes he would like to see, including from the offseason, if the NFL extends the schedule in the future.

Kittle says he would be “all-in” on the league switching things up, the All-Pro tight-end says it’s inevitable that the season pushes to 18 games. If the games do increase on the schedule, Kittle made the case for adding an extra bye week.

Via The Rich Eisen Show:

First, it’s going to get to 18 games at some point, right? I think I have said it ever since we got to 17 games. I was like, just give us two byes, and it just adds another week to the season anyway. Instead of 18 weeks, now you’re at 19 weeks. It’s another week of football. You’re on TV with all the ads and all that stuff. It increases the season longer, and it gives guys an extra week of rest because you need that. It’s hard to play 18 games. But I’m totally fine with that. Just give us two byes.

Kittle also spoke about moving things around in the offseason, including reducing OTAs, and pushing back the start of training camp.

Making it all the way to the Super Bowl, the 49ers played until the start of February. Then, just three months later, they returned to the practice field for OTAs and offseason workouts starting in May. The 49ers had their first mandatory minicamp on June 4.

The 49ers will report for training camp, starting next week on July 16 in Santa Clara.
