The San Francisco 49ers paid a hefty price to move up to the No. 3 overall pick in the 2021 NFL draft for their franchise quarterback of the future, but Trey Lance barely saw the field as a rookie, watching as Jimmy Garoppolo helped get their team to the NFC title game.
Heading into his second NFL season, Lance might still be in limbo when it comes to the starting job, as Garoppolo is still on the roster, recovering from offseason shoulder surgery.
Even in limited action, Lance has impressed one of his most talented teammates, tight end George Kittle, who has high expectations for the former North Dakota State star:

Who knows if Lance will be the one throwing passes to Kittle in Week 1 this season, but it’s clear that the veteran pass-catcher believes his team has something special at the game’s most important position.
