Two-time heavyweight boxing champion George Foreman died aged 76 on Friday, March 21 in Houston. His death was announced via an Instagram post made by Foreman’s family.
“Our hearts are broken,” the post began.
“With profound sorrow, we announce the passing of our beloved George Edward Foreman Sr. who peacefully departed on March 21, 2025 surrounded by loved ones.
“A humanitarian, an Olympian, and two time heavyweight champion of the world, he was deeply respected – a force for good, a man of discipline, conviction, and a protector of his legacy, fighting tirelessly to preserve his good name – for his family.

“We are grateful for the outpouring of love and prayers, and kindly ask for privacy as we honor the extraordinary life of a man we were blessed to call our own.”
A cause of death has not yet been revealed.
Foreman first won the title of world heavyweight champion in 1973, after beating then-champion Joe Frazier.
Despite holding the title for two more matches, he suffered his first defeat after legendary boxer Muhammad Ali beat him in 1974.
Foreman reclaimed his title two decades later, after defeating Michael Moorer.
The boxer also won the heavyweight gold medal at the 1968 Olympics held in Mexico City, aged 19.
Throughout his career, Foreman only lost five boxing matches.
Foreman was also known for selling the eponymous George Foreman Grill, an electric cooking grill designed to reduce fat, which revitalised his career and made him a household name.
