George Clooney sweetly fixes wife's dress train while pair stun on red carpet

George Clooney was ever the gentleman as he helped sort his wife Amal's dress train on the red carpet.

The pair were attending the Kennedy Center Honors Ceremony in Washington DC when the actor made sure Amal's stunning dress was seen in all its glory - and stopped it getting tangled on the carpet.

George, 61, stood behind his 41-year-old wife on the red carpet for the event and set about making sure it sat perfectly for photographs.

The Gravity star looked dapper in a smart black tuxedo with a black bow-tie, but seemed more interested in ensuring his partner avoided any potential mishaps and that the stunning Valentino gown she was modelling received the attention it deserved.

The red gown hugged the brunette beauty's figure perfectly as the elegant design sat off her shoulders. She completed the look with a red clutch bag, while she added the perfect amount of bling with a pair of diamond earrings and matching bracelet.

The duo were attending the ceremony to see George honoured for his lifetime achievements.

Speaking to ABC News, George said: "Growing up in a small town in Kentucky I could never have imagined that someday I'd be the one sitting in the balcony at the Kennedy Center Honors.

"To be mentioned in the same breath with the rest of these incredible artists is an honour. This is a genuinely exciting surprise for the whole Clooney family."

George and Amal were joined by the actor's parents Nick and Nina at the ceremony.

Others to receive honours at the event included Amy Grant, Gladys Knight and U2.

In September, George admitted he had never rowed with his human rights lawyer wife in the near-decade they'd been wed.

Once known as one of Hollywood's most famous bachelors, George tied the knot with Amal in 2014 after dating for a year. The pair had been introduced by mutual friend David Letterman, before falling 'head over heels in love'. Three years later Amal gave birth to twins Ella and Alexander in 2017.

Speaking about the success of their relationship on their wedding anniversary, George admitted: "It does start with love. That's sort of the whole secret to it.

"It's just been easy. Like the easiest thing we have done in our lives thus far. We've never had an argument."
