George Clooney and fellow Hollywood stars join forces to open new specialised school

George Clooney, Mindy Kaling and Don Cheadle have officially opened their new filmmaking school in Los Angeles.

The co-founders took to the stage at the official opening of the Roybal School of Film and Television Production Magnet on Wednesday and discussed the importance of the new institution.

The educational centre was launched by the trio as a "pipeline of diverse, career-ready young people" for Hollywood jobs. Also said to be involved in the creation are fellow Hollywood stars Eva Longoria and Kerry Washington.

At the launch, Ticket to Paradise star George, 61, revealed the importance creating more roles in the industry and why he felt the need to be involved in the project.

Speaking to ET at the launch event, said: "We feel like there’s a real opportunity here, and it’s something that I think we missed in our industry, and I think it’s something that it’s pretty obvious what the solution is — and it’s starting earlier.

"I just felt like, if you see a hole, you try to fill it, and this is one that it just seemed like — I was in London, and we were staffing up, and because it’s been a very busy time in the industry, it’s hard to find crew, and we need to do a lot better about inclusivity."

He continued to reveal that although he won't be taking up a teaching role on campus, he will be popping in to give talks to students when necessary.

"Listen, this is below-the-line guys, right? So, I'm not really gonna come in and talk about directing or acting," he admitted. "But I can come in and sit down with the kids when they're editing and stuff like that, so, something like that."

George's latest movie is set for release, but he said that the UK launch has been pushed back following the death of Queen Elizabeth II. The star said it wasn't the time to be releasing movies as "people are in mourning".

And he admitted it was an easy decision to push back the launch date as a show of respect to the Queen and the office.
