'Geordie boy' Aleksandar Mitrovic responds to Sunderland boos after Fulham's FA Cup win

Former Newcastle United striker Aleksandar Mitrovic was happy to get one over Sunderland in the FA Cup replay at the Stadium of Light. The former Magpies' striker came off the bench at half-time and set-up Andreas Pereira for Fulham's second of the game.

Mitrovic and the goal scorer were introduced by Marco Silva at the break to a chorus of boos from the home support, with the Black Cats growing into game prior to half-time. The Cottagers boss was keen to put the tie to bed and they would narrowly edge out the Championship side but had to avoid a second-half scare from Tony Mowbray's side.

Sunderland pulled two goals back through Jack Clarke and Jewison Bennette, with the hosts giving a good account of themselves. Mitrovic himself praised the Wearsiders for making the game a difficult one for them.

Speaking to the BBC, Mitrovic said: "I think we conceded two sloppy goals, credit to them they played really good especially in the second-half. They pressed really good and they were around our box all the time, but at the end we managed to scored three goals and get through so job done. Really happy."

The former Toon striker, revelled in the celebrations following Fulham's second goal to put them two to the good and the full-time whistle, the boos continued as he gave his post-match interview on the pitch.

"Yeah, I love it," he said. I'm a Geordie boy so they don't like me here. I knew it before but it was a good atmosphere. A win against them so a lot of Newcastle fans will be happy as well."
