Rob Burrow's dad Geoff says watching his son given the freedom of Leeds is up there with his proudest moments.
The former Rhinos halfback, who is inspiring millions with the courageousness he's shown since being diagnosed with motor neurone disease (MND), was given the honour on Wednesday. Although he wasn't able to make the event due to his new role with England's Rugby Union side, Burrow's close friend, Kevin Sinfield, was also given the accolade for their outstanding sporting achievements and work to support those with MND.
Burrow's father, Geoff, took to social media as he posted on his Twitter page, "Kevin Sinfield and Rob received their Honorary Freedom of the City of Leeds awards yesterday evening. One of the proudest days of my life, Rob said, "Leeds is where my Dreams came true. Fantastic day."

In late 2022, Sinfield completed the third in his epic trilogy of challenges. First, he completed seven marathons in seven days in December 2020, which raised over £2.7m. Then in November of 2021, he ran 101 miles from Leicester's Mattioli Woods Welford Road home to Leeds' Headingley ground in 24 hours, culminating in a further £2m in donations. His final test came in November, as the inspirational figure ran seven ultra-marathons in as many days, finishing at Old Trafford during Australia and Samoa's Rugby League World Cup Final clash. Again, £2m was topped as people worldwide tuned in to see Sinfield complete the gruelling test, described by him as "Just going for a run with a mate."
