Among many other things, Genshin Impact update 3.1 brought us three new domains. We’ve already covered how to unlock the Garden of Endless Pillars, so now we’re focusing on another, the Altar of Mirages. This one is a little trickier to unlock as, while there isn’t a puzzle, it’s tucked away behind locked doors and secret passages, not to mention that this one has a prerequisite quest before you can get there, too.
We’ll tell you where the entrance to this domain is, along with the steps you must to take to get there. Another part of this update is a new collectable, so make sure you check out our guide on every Sumeru Scarab location.
Altar of Mirages location - Genshin Impact
You can find this domain in the Hypostyle Desert, under the ground. It’s northeast of The Mausoleum of King Deshret, but more practical is the nearest waypoint from the locked door blocking the path to the entrance, which is Khemenu Temple. Note that you’ll need to be Adventure Rank 28 or higher before you can enter this domain.
How to unlock Altar of Mirages - Genshin Impact
Before you can even get near this domain you need to head to Aaru Village and complete the Golden Slumber quest line. This will give you the clearance for the Scarlet Sand Slate, an item that is crucial to this process, you’ll know you’re done when the central glyph on the slate lights up.
Next, teleport to the Khemenu Temple waypoint and run straight along the west corridor until you reach the main chamber. From here, you need to turn and go through the door on the northern wall – remember that you can use your minimap to check which way north is whenever you want. Go straight across the next room and you’ll encounter a door that’s locked by a book.
At this point, as long as you’ve done the prerequisite quests, you’ll be able to interact with the book and use the Scarlet Sand Slate to unlock the door to reveal a big hole in the floor. You need to jump down this hole, but make sure you have something to slow your fall, otherwise you’ll die to fall damage. Once you’re at the bottom, turn to face southwest and you’ll see the entrance to Altar of Mirages.
