Geno Smith talks about importance of mental health

It’s perhaps a cliché at this point, but it is still far too easy for fans and the media to forget professional athletes are humans too. Sure, they can be extremely well compensated financially, but you can’t always put a price on your mental health.

One area society has progressed rapidly in the last few years has been an increased acceptance of people discussing their mental health issues. Anxiety, depression, etc. has become more normalized to actually talk about.

Seattle Seahawks quarterback Geno Smith is among those who feel more comfortable speaking out on this topic. He recently shared about the status of his mental health over the course of his career in a hopes to normalize this topic.

Courage comes in many different forms. It could be the ability to stand tall in the pocket to deliver a pass when you know you’re about to be cooked by a blitzing linebacker. It could also be simply allowing yourself to be vulnerable about a subject that has been socially taboo for far too long.

Kudos to Smith.
