Just imagine the level of Geno Smith hype if he was playing for a complete team. Yes, the Seahawks have found a surprise gem in Smith, who turns 32 years old today and has suddenly late-bloomed into one of the league’s best passers. Unfortunately, he’s surrounded by an absolutely atrocious defense and a special teams unit that keeps kicking itself in the Michael Dickson.
In yesterday’s game against the Saints Smith played as well as he ever has, posting three passing touchdowns, no interceptions and a season-high 139.7 passer rating. For his efforts Smith once again earned a Pro Football Focus grade over 90 – and he’s the only quarterback in the league with a season-long grade over that point.
There is one (1) QB with a @PFF grade over 90 so far this season.

Smith’s performance is usually enough to win in this league, but it wasn’t enough to overcome all the dysfunction going on around him. In the end, his team lost 39-32.
Nevertheless, Smith isn’t complaining. After the game he tweeted a nobody cares, work harder message.

Picking up a young quarterback in next year’s draft should still be on the menu, but at this point Geno has played well enough long enough for the Seahawks to consider keeping him as their QB1.
