The Seattle Seahawks claimed the final victory of this season’s edition of Thursday Night Football with their 6-3 win over the Chicago Bears. It may not have been the most thrilling victory of all time, but a win is a win in this league, no matter how you want to quantify it.
However, for quarterback Geno Smith, it was not just a single win. In fact, Seattle’s game against the Bears was the first time Smith has won a game on Thursday night. Going into Week 17, Smith was 0-7 all time on Thursday. This includes dropping a Week 6 game to the San Francisco 49ers earlier this season, as well as dropping three other TNF outings from the previous two years.
Smith did not exactly light up the scoreboard, but neither did the rest of the offense. Overall, Smith was his usual efficient self, completing 17-of-23 passes for 160 yards. He did not have a touchdown, but he did not turn the ball over. While it wasn’t exactly a game fans will remember fondly, Smith shares my personal sentiment that a win matters above all else.
“It’s not always going to be sunshine and rainbows,” declared the Seahawks starter during the postgame press conference. “Gutting out a 6-3 win feels just as good as winning the game 44-41. It’s all good getting wins.”
