Help me out here, dear reader. What do you think is a worse offense: a late hit on a quarterback, that actually knocks him out of the game for a bit? Or some trash talk after said hit? Well, if you ask the NFL, the answer is clear: keep your mouth shut.
In a rather stunning move, no punishment was handed down to New York Giants linebacker Isaiah Simmons, but Seahawks quarterback Geno Smith was the primary offender in the eyes of the league.
Buy Seahawks TicketsThe NFL didn't fine #Giants LB Isaiah Simmons for the tackle that temporarily sidelined #Seahawks QB Geno Smith on Monday night, but did fine Smith $10,927 for unsportsmanlike conduct — barking at the defense after he returned to the game.

The NFL loves to preach player safety, and emphasizes overprotection for the quarterback. Yet when the Seahawks’ quarterback is actually injured on a late play, the league is going to add this insult to it?
Hopefully the NFL donates Smith’s fines to a charity of his choosing for this nonsense.
