Geno Smith admits facing Aaron Donald is always a challenge

The Seattle Seahawks have consistently struggled with the Los Angeles Rams, year in year out. It is the one division rival that’s always seemed to be a thorn in their side that they can’t quite figure out – especially under head coach Sean McVay.

But one of the biggest X-factor’s in the Rams/Seahawks rivalry is down in the trenches. Quarterback Geno Smith was quick to identify him when asked about the challenge the Rams always present:

Aaron Donald is a force of nature. One of the best defensive players of our generation routinely throws a pipe into Seattle’s best-laid plans. In 17 career games against the Seahawks, Donald has racked up 69 total tackles (40 solo), 15.5 sacks, forced two fumbles, and was the one to break Russell Wilson’s finger in 2021.

It should not come as a surprise that with Donald not facing Seattle in either game last season, the Seahawks managed to (narrowly) beat the Rams twice. But with Donald back in the lineup for Week 1 this year, Los Angeles held Seattle to 13 points and a second half shutout.

Unfortunately for the Seahawks, Donald will still be in the lineup come Sunday. It will be another massive test for their offensive line, and an incredible hurdle to overcome if Seattle wants to leave the City of Angeles with a victory.
