Genesis EVs Get Tesla Supercharger Access In The U.S.

  • Genesis EV owners in the U.S. can now use roughly 20,000 Tesla Superchargers.
  • The automaker will ship free NACS to CCS adapters to owners who got their EVs before January 31.

American owners of the Genesis GV60, Electrified GV70 and Electrified G80 can now use roughly 20,000 Tesla Superchargers in the United States to top-up their cars’ batteries. The news comes hot off the heels of Hyundai’s announcement that its EVs can now use Tesla’s expansive DC fast charging network.

Kia, the other automaker in Hyundai Motor Group’s portfolio, does not officially have Supercharger access yet, although some owners found out that they can charge using a third-party adapter at certain Superchargers.

Genesis said it will start shipping free manufacturer-approved NACS to CCS adapters to its customers starting the week of April 7. Those who have purchased or leased their EVs on or before January 31, 2025 are eligible.

As a reminder, owners of non-Tesla EVs that have access to the Supercharger network could use a third-party charging adapter to get the job done, but anything other than what is supplied by either Tesla or the car’s maker is technically prohibited.

To get a free Genesis-approved charging adapter, owners must have an active MyGenesis account and opt-in to get e-mail notifications from the company. Drivers will get an invitation from the automaker that needs to be accepted within 60 days. Then, the adapter will be shipped to the address that’s in the MyGenesis account.

“At Genesis, we pride ourselves on providing customers with the best possible ownership experience,” said Tedros Mengiste, chief operating officer, Genesis Motor North America. “By offering complimentary NACS adapters, we will make charging even more convenient for our current EV owners. This reinforces our commitment to treating every customer as our ‘son-nim,’ or honored guest.”

Currently, Genesis’ EVs in the United States come with a Combined Charging System 1 (CCS1) charging port from the factory. Meanwhile, the majority of Tesla Superchargers stateside have a Tesla-designed North American Charging Standard (NACS) connector. As such, a charging adapter is needed to charge a CCS1-equipped EV at a Supercharger. To make things a bit more confusing, Tesla also has a handful of DC fast chargers with a device called the Magic Dock, which is essentially a NACS to CCS adapter that’s built into the stall.

Genesis said that starting with the 2026 model year, all of its EVs in the U.S. will come with an NACS port from the factory, making the use of an NACS to CCS adapter redundant for Superchargers. However, the change will introduce the need for a different kind of adapter—CCS to NACS—for owners with NACS-equipped EVs who want to use CCS-equipped DC fast chargers like those operated by Electrify America, EVgo, Ionna and others. That said, more and more charging operators are retrofitting their stalls with NACS cables.
