A shopkeeper from Doncaster that came into the public eye for calling Wakey Wines £100-a-bottle Prime sale a rip-off and offering the energy drink to children that visit his shop for free has offered local kids the opportunity to win some prizes from his store. Jiy Singh, who owns Wheatley Mini Market, videoed himself asking a boy a question, and when it was answered correctly, gave the boy 15 seconds to grab anything he wanted from the shop.
Jiy explained: "Since TikTok has taken off and I’ve gained thousands of followers in a short time. I thought I would look into doing some more positive content that would hopefully spread to other shops doing it.
"So I asked this local kid what’s the best shop in Doncaster, he replied 'Jiy’s Wheatley Mini market', so I said he could choose whatever he wants for free within 15 seconds. Looking back I did count a little faster, think he actually only got 11/12 seconds.
"But even so, he only picked up probably what he initially came in for, that kid was humble. I know if I said that to some kids they would have emptied my shelves in 15 seconds."
Jiy said he will extend the giveaway to other children from the area once a week or once a month. He said: "Just a nice thing to do I guess. Passes time, and it won’t break the bank by doing that once a week or a month. Watch this space, I’m after the official title of being the best shopkeeper in Doncaster."
"I guess it creates a little competition too because I won’t be the only shopkeeper who thinks he’s the best in Doncaster. The only difference is people see me as the best shopkeeper from actions and good natured gestures.
"If you can help someone then help them. If you can put a smile on someone’s face, then do it.
"Those that know me, know if I can help someone I always will. I’ve got a good circle of friends an family so the push’s me to do better in life."
