Generous mansion still feels like a 'cosy' home

A stunning mansion has come to market on one of Canberra's most prestigious streets.

The five-bedroom house at 5 Vancouver Street, Red Hill could be on track for a suburb record.

That price was set at $8 million in 2020 and repeated in November last year.

Selling agent Andrew Chamberlain, director of Blackshaw Manuka, said it was hard to know exactly what the property would go for.

But the property was special in that it did not compromise on being a cosy family home despite its size and prestige.

"It is a very generous, well-built house," he said.

Floorboards in the dining room, kitchen, living areas and main bedroom helped to contribute to the homey feel.

A "kids area", with three bedrooms, placed around a billiards and games area that Mr Chamberlain said was the perfect hang-out space.

Upstairs, parents can get away from the noise in a master suite. It includes a private terrace overlooking the pool, kitchenette and walk-in robe.

"It is a really good, practical space," Mr Chamberlain said.

The house has two zones that have been described as retreat areas.

One is on the lowest level near the master bedroom - can be used for studies, other bedrooms, or sitting areas.

Meanwhile a main study area near the fifth bedroom is ideal for a full home office set up.

"It is really up to the imagination," Mr Chamberlain said.

In addition to its expansive media areas, the house also has a gym with space for a pilates set up and weights.

Mr Chamberlain said the house was elevated from the street, offering views over trees in the leafy street.

The pool and surrounding deck also had a leafy outlook into surrounding treetops.

There is also an outdoor kitchen and dining area, near the pool, is ideal for entertaining.

There is room for seven cars to be parked in lock-up garage on the property.

Interest so far had been from local families, particularly ones with children enrolled at the co-educational Canberra Grammar School.

The property will be sold through an expression of interest process, which finishes at close of business on November 8.

The Canberra record for a five-bedroom, four-bathroom property was set on Empire Circuit, Deakin in 2022, which sold for $9 million.
