Sperling will be transitioning to Vice President Kamala Harris' policy team as a senior economic advisor for the campaign.
During his tenure, Sperling played a crucial role in overseeing the distribution of economic relief to cities and counties, safeguarding union pensions, making significant federal investments in public safety, and supporting small businesses during the pandemic. President Biden praised Sperling's leadership and highlighted his contributions to key initiatives, such as liaising with the Big 3 automakers and the UAW to secure record contracts for autoworkers.
With over a decade of experience in senior government roles, Sperling has previously served in Democratic administrations under Presidents Clinton and Obama. He has been instrumental in leading the federal government's economic response during times of crisis under both administrations.
Sperling's departure follows the recent exit of Brian Nelson, a senior Treasury official who also joined the campaign team. The White House expressed confidence in Sperling's ability to bring his expertise to Vice President Harris' policy team and continue contributing to key economic initiatives.
