The plot has thickened in the sad case of Oscar winner Gene Hackman and his wife Betsy Arakawa, with fresh details emerging about their unexpected deaths.
Two major updates have come to light, shedding new perspective on this Hollywood tragedy. Firstly, tests on the pair for carbon monoxide poisoning came back negative, ruling out one potential cause of death. Secondly, Hackman’s pacemaker has revealed a crucial clue.
Santa Fe County Sheriff Adan Mendoza dropped this bombshell at a recent press conference, sharing that the last signal from Hackman’s pacemaker was recorded on February 17.

“It is a good assumption that was his last day of life,” Mendoza said per ABC, though he added that a more thorough investigation is still underway.
This revelation suggests the Oscar-winning actor might have died a full nine days before the couple was found on February 26.
Adding to the mystery, the bodies were found in a state that hinted at a significant passage of time. Sheriff Mendoza stated, “The condition of the bodies found Wednesday indicated the deaths occurred at least several days earlier”.
Court records revealed that Arakawa’s body showed signs of “mummification in both hands and feet”, painting a grim picture of the scene.
Hackman was discovered in an entryway, while Arakawa was found in the bathroom near a space heater. Investigators reckon the heater “likely was pulled down when she fell”.
An open prescription bottle with scattered pills was spotted nearby, prompting a request for toxicology tests. These could take months to complete, according to Sheriff Mendoza.

The private nature of Hackman and Arakawa isn’t making things easy for the authorities. With no security cameras at the house and the couple keeping to themselves, piecing together their final days is proving to be a real head-scratcher.
As fans mourn the loss of the legendary actor and his wife, the circumstances surrounding their deaths remain clouded in mystery. It seems this Hollywood ending might take some time to unravel.
