The pop-rock icon has been a big name in music for half a century but has yet to appear on the renowned Glastonbury stage. That's about to change this year though, as the legendary star is set to headline this year's event.
Making the moment even more special, it will be the 75-year-old singer’s last ever show here in the UK and will also mark the end of his 350-date farewell tour. He said, “There is no more fitting way to say goodbye to my British fans…I can’t wait to embrace the spirit of the greatest festival in the world. It’s going to be incredibly emotional.”
Having never properly sat down to listen to his iconic music that is so dearly loved by many, I decided I should play a playlist of some of his biggest hits ahead of his arrival in the West Country.

While I have heard some of his main hits - Rocket Man and I’m Still Standing - on the radio, I’ve not listened to much more than that. So I went onto my Spotify and searched 'Elton John' to have a little listen.
I don’t know if I had a favourite, all the songs were really good -as you would expect as he is a global legend- but I loved the melody of One More Arrow, it's a slow song that really makes the listener relax, and even sway along. Another song I loved was Crystal - it was a different style to that of One More Arrow, with more of a beat to it to get his listeners tapping their feet along.
I like how, while there are so many different styles of music nowadays, his songs have aged perfectly and are still in keeping with the times, both then and now. People both young and old can put the music on and enjoy it, and the beats feel perfect for all ages to dance along to.
I’m not a musical expert but the tone of Elton’s voice is just smooth like caramel so it’s no wonder many people have paid to listen to him play over the years. His ability to reach different pitches as well is amazing, from high to low as if it was effortless to him. And it's not just his singing, you don’t tend to hear Elton sing without him playing the piano, a skill he seems to have mastered to a T.
It may be his last hurrah in the UK but he will forever be the nation's Rocket Man.
