Gemma Atkinson shares adorable birthday tribute amid sad family news

Gemma Atkinson has shared an adorable birthday tribute to her beloved pet pooch amid some sad family news.

The Hits Radio presenter took to Instagram to share a sweet snap of her two dogs Norman and Ollie.

Gemma's much-loved pets were seen laying on the sofa in red party hats with two mini-cakes decorated with candles sat in front of them.

There was also a card on the table which read: "To the best dog ever...

"Yip yip hooray, it's your birthday today."

Returning Hollyoaks star Gemma captioned the image to her 1.7m followers: "'Hooman. Are you actually serious?' [crying laughing emojis].

"Birthday boy Ollie is 11 today!"

The 37-year-old went on: "11 years of loyalty, love, chewed socks and fox poo rolls but we wouldn’t have it any other way.

"Beautiful Ollie, Happy Birthday."

Plenty of messages were then left for Gemma to read.

Former Emmerdale star Anthony Quinlan was among the first to comment, writing "Aww Happy Birthday Ollie! Lots of woof."

Strictly Come Dancing professional dancer Karen Hauer also said: "Cuties!!! Happy birrfffdddaaayyyy."

The Instagram post also included photos of Gemma cuddling up to her pets as well as them alongside her daughter Mia as a baby.

But her sweet post comes amid a heartbreaking family loss.

Taking to her Instagram Story earlier in the week, Gemma explained how her sister had sent over some dog treats and a dog bed after her own pup, Jackson passed away.

She said she'd be taking to them to Bleakholt Animal Sanctuary in Bury, a place close to Gemma's heart, for "dogs who need them" and so "they won't be wasted."

Gemma went on to say that two-year-old Mia, who she shares with her Strictly Come Dancing star fiance Gorka Marquez, stayed at her sister Nina's house in a bid to 'cheer them up'.

"She's been told that Jackson lives on the mood with 'GanGan David'," Gemma said, referring to her late dad, David, who died when she was 17.

"So she's very excited that when she sees the moon she'll see GanGan David and Jackson," the mum-of-one added.

Gemma then shared a snap of herself cuddled up to Jackson, writing: "He was a great dog. A gentle giant.

"Sending love to anyone who's lost a pet..."
