Gemma Atkinson says she 'looks exhausted' after days of worrying about her beloved pet dog

Gemma Atkinson admitted that she 'looks exhausted' as she gave her millions of followers a positive update after sharing her concerns for one of her beloved pet dogs. Over the weekend the Hits Radio host opened up about her 'horrible month' and she welcomed a fresh start in October.

She told her Instagram followers she had a smear test scare and had been 'full of worry' after having cervical screening, which checks the health of the cervix to help prevent cancer. The mum-of-one was told "they weren't happy" with the results so she then underwent a colposcopy, a test to take a closer look at the cervix, the opening between the vagina and the womb.

Luckily, Gemma was relieved to be told immediately that 'everything was fine' and has urged fans not to worry if they're also invited for the same procedure. "Wanted to keep it real with you lot on here as it's always like having an extended family. It's been a bloody horrible month," she wrote at the time on her Instagram Stories.

But it wasn't just her own health she was worried about. Gemma shared how she had to rush one of her dogs, Norman, to the vets after his 'breathing went funny'. She explained how he too was found to have an infection and that the enzymes in his liver were found to be 'too high'.

She shared how he had been placed on antibiotics and well return to the vets for a scan this week. "It's safe to say I'm glad to see the back of Sept," Gemma also typed in her honest message to her millions of followers. On Tuesday, the former Emmerdale and Hollyoaks star kept her fans updated as Norman headed off to the vets for his scan.

"He's already had cruciate ligament surgery on both his back legs so no wonder they're sore bless him," Gemma typed as she spoke to the camera while giving her pooch some loving strokes. "Will see what they say," she added referring to the vets. Later, she returned to thank fans for their 'lovely messages' of support.

As she sat in the gym at her Greater Manchester home, the Bury-born radio and TV star said: "Bloomin 'eck. I've just spoken to the vet and he's in recovery at the minute so he'll be coming round now. But that was a worry for me, him going under anesthetic, because when Ollie last went under anesthetic they had to do his breathing for him as he had a really bad reaction which was just horrendous."

Gemma then headed off for a workout and to work at Hits Radio but it wasn't long before she was sharing a positive update. Smiling in her car, the 37-year-old said into her phone camera: "Vets rung, it's just arthritis," as she breathed a sigh of relief she added: "I know I say 'just arthritis, arthritis isn't great but it's expected in dogs, especially older dogs and dogs who have had surgery before like Norman has.

"It's manageable. I can deal with that. I can deal with arthritis. I'm going to get googling all the herbal remedies, the CBDs, the hemps, everything to get him comfortable." She then said she'd be taking him on shorter walks and giving him "lots of cuddles". Gemma also typed over the clip: "I look exhausted [ crying laughing emoji]. But he's okay [red heart emoji]."

And cuddles is exactly what the adorable pup got as Gemma later shared a video of her three-year-old daughter Mia, who she shares with her Strictly star fiance Gorka Marquez, cuddling up to Norman and sweetly saying: "Good boy!" as she rested her head on him and stroked his head.
