Gemma Atkinson makes Strictly plea to Giovanni Pernice as Gorka Marquez bids for victory

Gemma Atkinson has made a cheeky plea to reigning Strictly Come Dancing champion Giovanni Pernice, on behalf of her other half Gorka Marquez as he goes for victory in Saturday's final.

Having made the finale twice before, first in 2017 with Alexandra Burke and then in 2020 alongside Maisie Smith, Gorka will battle for the Glitterball trophy again this year, alongside TV presenter Helen Skelton. After a rather hesitant start to her Strictly journey, former Blue Peter host Helen has become a serious contender for victory, having shaken off her confidence issues to be a fantastic and twice scored a near perfect 39 out of 40.

Helen and Gorka's partnership has proved to a real force to be reckoned with and they never once fell into the dance-off, a claim that can only be boasted by Hamza and Jowita as well, given that both Molly Rainford and Fleur East landed in the bottom two on multiple occasions.

All four remaining couples are vying to follow in the footsteps of Giovanni and Rose Ayling-Ellis, who triumphed in the final last year. Giovanni took to Instagram in the run up to the final to post a photo of him and Rose lifting the trophy next year and wrote: "That indescribable feeling! today @rose.a.e and I pass our crown of reigning champions to another incredible couple.. and believe me when i say that everyone deserves to win!"

And former Hollyoaks star Gemma, herself a finalist in 2017, made a very forward comment underneath, replying: "Can you pass it to Gorka and Helen please!"

Her response got plenty of attention from fans, with one telling her: "Helen and Gorka are definitely my winners!!! Incredible journey for them and such a transformation into a beautiful dancer, love their partnership" and a second posting: "my votes going to them tonight! What a journey! I have loved Gorka believing in Helen so much she began to believe in herself."

Helen and Gorka are second favourites with the bookies going into the final, with Hamza and Jowita still out in front, like they have been for over a month now.
