Gemma Atkinson hits back over 'irresponsible' relationship between her dog and daughter

Gemma Atkinson has hit back and shared her upset after she was mum-shamed over a video of her daughter Mia with her dog Norman.

Former Hollyoaks actress Gemma, 38, is a proud mum to daughter Mia, three, as well as being a loving dog mum to her dogs Norman and Ollie – who even took centre-stage for Gemma's pregnancy reveal.

Gemma has posted in the past about her daughter Mia's bond with her fur babies on her Instagram page. Most recently the former Strictly Come Dancing star, who shares Mia with Gorka Marquez, posted a video of her daughter alongside one of her two pups, Norman.

The throwback clip shows little Mia as a baby crying while sat next to the black dog, before the tot stops crying and is distracted by the silver tag on Norman's collar.

Mia is seen reaching out and gently tugging the tag and smiling while looking at it and the dog, meanwhile, is sat next to Mia and looks slightly taken aback.

The tot's dad Gorka, 32, then comes into the frame to ensure the dog and the baby are ok and gives a giggle while the dog calmly lets the tot play with his tag.

Baby Mia is then seen touching the dog's fur before both the parents stop her and say: "Not his hair," and Mia continues to play with Norman's tag who is praised while he remains placid.

As Gemma posted the throwback video on her Instagram page on Wednesday, she wrote in the caption: "This just came up as a memory The calming effect of dogs.

"I’ve lost count of the amount of times Norman or Ollie have without even knowing comforted Mia or instantly changed her mood (as they do with me daily) The amount of patience and love they have for her is so heartwarming".

However, one dog trainer used Gemma's video as an example of what not to let children do to dogs.

She was branded "irresponsible" and her sweet video was used as a "bad example."

Taking to her Instagram stories, she updated fans: "Thanks for the msgs re the dog trainer using my video in a negative way.

"I've reached out to her privately and it's been removed. I have the upmost respect for anyone who works with animals, but it was really disheartening to see my video was used as a "bad example" and the comments "so irresponsible."

"I know my dogs, I know my child, and I know I'm a responsible owner and anyone who owns a pet should be.

"Thanks to those who let me know about the video share," she finished.

She shared other snaps of her feeding Mia when she was tiny and Norman sat beside them, which she says he has done since day one.

She also added that she "won't stay quiet" when people judge her on her parenting.

Many of Gemma's followers gushed over the sweet moment in the comments as one said: "You’re a very responsible parent and teaching Mia from a young age not to pull dogs hair but also not to fear them."

Another added: "What a well trained and well behaved dog", while a third said: "Bless that gorgeous dog, such patience "

"Lovely to see the interaction between them. Norman’s patience is wonderful but from watching your vids it’s also nice to see you’ve taught Mia to respect the dogs too," another added.

Although one person wrote: "He was very patient but he did also look quite uncomfortable in that interaction."
