Gemma Atkinson finds childhood letter that shows she knew she would be famous one day

Gemma Atkinson has revealed she always knew that she was going to be famous.

The former soap actress shared a letter that her younger self wrote to prove it on social media earlier this week.

The 37-year-old found fame playing Lisa Hunter in Hollyoaks between 2001 and 2005, with her having since appeared on I'm a Celebrity, Emmerdale, and Strictly Come Dancing.

The Hits Radio presenter - who is engaged to Strictly dancer Gorka Márquez, 31 - has now teased that as a child she had expected to reach such career highs later in life.

And she even has a letter to prove the confidence she had in her ambition, with her having shown it to her followers in a video on Instagram earlier this week.

Gemma rediscovered the note she had written to her uncle Clive when he dropped off stuff he had kept from her school days, as reported by the Manchester Evening News.

This included the letter - which she is said to have written at around age 13 - with her having discussed the contents of the note to her relative in a recent video on her Story.

She commented: "Dear Clive, my uncle Clive, thank you very much for your card. P.s. here's an autograph before I become famous and don't forget about you."

The mum-of-one is said to have given a close-up of her signature and told her followers: "I genuinely signed it." She then continued to recount further parts of the letter.

This included teasing that she would meet Jean-Claude Van Damme, now 61. Discussing this ambition, she said: "I was determined to meet Van Damme. I loved him."

It was an ambition that would come true later in life, with Gemma - who is set to reprise her role on Hollyoaks this week - stating: "I have met Van Damme, twice. How funny's that?"

It's reported that she also found a letter about animal activism, which she's still passion about. Gemma is president of Bleakholt Animal Sanctuary in her hometown Bury.

The discovery of the childhood letters comes after the actor revealed that she isn't interested at the moment in reprising her role as Carly Hope in Emmerdale.

She explained that roles in soaps require "gruelling hours," which she said isn't "practical" whilst daughter Mia, two, is young and partner Gorka is touring a lot.

Gemma however suggested that she is open to the possibility of returning when the couple's child is in school, adding: "Maybe when Mia is a bit older and in school I might consider it."
