Gemma Atkinson has hit back at vile online trolls who claimed fiancé Gorka Marquez would either “leave” or “cheat” on her if she were to let herself go.

The Hollyoaks actress, 37, regularly keeps fans updated on her fitness regime and on Monday night shared some of the shocking comments she had received on one of her latest posts.

The Bury-born star – who has a two-year-old daughter Mia with the Strictly Come Dancing professional dancer – was told she was working out “to keep Gorka” while another cruelly said: “Her bloke will cheat on her if she stops training.”

Refusing to let the nasty remarks get her down, she urged her followers to only ever workout for themselves and not for anyone else.

She wrote on Instagram Stories: “We seem to have gone back a few decades [face palm emoji].

“Note to anyone starting out with training/health regime. Doing it for anyone but yourself is a set up for failure. Do it for YOU! YOU deserve to feel YOUR best. Shut out the noise and crack on.”

Atkinson and Marquez got engaged in February 2021, four years after meeting on Strictly Come Dancing.

They were not paired with each other on the 15th series of the BBC dance show but chemistry brought them together.

In May, Atkinson told how they had been forced to postpone their wedding this year as their conflicting schedules meant it would be impossible to set a date.

This could now change however as he was recently forced to quit the upcoming Strictly Come Dancing professionals tour after suffering from an injury.

The 31-year-old Spanish dancer explained doctors had warned him not to appear after suffering a nasty injury.

Issuing a statement, he said: “I am so sad to announce that, following medical advice, I have to withdraw from the ‘Strictly Presents’ tour.

“During the ‘Strictly Professionals’ tour I suffered an injury that, with treatment and care, let me carry on through the last few weeks of the tour.

“Unfortunately last week I had a flair up of my injury causing me a lot of pain and problems, even to walk.

“Following the advice from doctors and physios, I have had to stop my involvement in this new tour.”
