Gemma Atkinson has told of her amazement after returning to The Royal Bolton Hospital ahead of the birth of her second child. The pregnant actress and broadcaster from Bury was back at the hospital where she gave birth to daughter Mia by emergency C-section.
There was a special moment as her obstetrician turned out to be the woman who brought her little girl safely into the world in July 2019. Gemma was emotional to have the chance to say thank you, after Mia made a dramatic arrival by caesarean when the baby's heart rate dropped with every contraction.
The Hits Radio presenter and former Emmerdale and Hollyoaks star said in a video posted on her Instagram Stories: "So I've been back at Bolton today. I've had an appointment with my obstetrician and when she walked in the room it was unbelievable. It was the same lady who delivered Mia."

She added: "Literally, I could not believe it. It was so bizarre. I felt like it's come full circle. With Mia I was all over the place. She got Mia out and handed her to me."
Gemma was gobsmacked to learn that the obstetrician was pregnant at the time and branded her "Wonder Woman." She told her followers: "It was a lovely moment. I got quite emotional because I finally got to say thank you."
She added: "In the madness of the moment I didnt get to say thank you and I said 'thank you so much'. Unbelievable." Gemma admitted she didn't realise who she was immediately, saying "during an emergency section the last thing you look at is people's faces."
But when she called her Strictly star fiance Gorka Marquez he remembered her immediately. The Strictly Come Dancing professional dancer could recall in detail the expertise with which she dealt with the situation.
"She took him to one side and said 'I know this looks like really bad chaos but I've done this thousands of times and it'll be fine, and in a couple of minutes time you'll meet your little girl. Cool as anything. " said an impressed Gemma. She added: "It's remarkable isn't it? Surgeons, doctors, just bloody remarkable."
Gemma, who is expecting a baby boy, shared her pregnancy news last month. She wrote: "Impossible to hide my belly any longer. I’ve officially 'popped.' Our baby boy will be joining our family later this year."
She added: "We feel so incredibly blessed and Grateful to be on this journey again. Mia is absolutely thrilled! Although we may need to do some negotiating on names, as so far she’s adamant he’s going to be called Barbie."
The doting mum joked that she's "prepared for chaos." "My sister's got two lads and a girl so fully prepared for the chaos," she said. "Cannot wait, bring it on."
