GBBO fans only have one thing to say as contestant shares her Boris Johnson connection

Great British Bake Off fans were not overly impressed with one contestant as the new series began on Tuesday evening.

A whole new batch of amateur bakers joined Matt Lucas and Noel Fielding in the famous tent as they tried their best to impress judges Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith.

As viewers got to know all of the new contestants individually, they were stunned by one person's previous career.

Noel Fielding was heard announcing: "Dawn, a former project manager for Boris Johnson, lives in Bedfordshire where she entertains granddaughter Emmy with her hand modelled sugar figurines."

As the show cut back to the tent, comedian Matt was heard asking Dawn: "You worked for Boris Johnson?" to which she replied: "Not directly."

"Did you get to meet him?" Matt then said as Dawn confirmed she had, before Matt joked: "His hair was a bit like yours wasn't it? And his face was a bit like mine!"

Dawn replied: "Well there you go, we're like a hybrid! How about that!" as Matt laughed with her.

Bake Off fans immediately picked up on Dawn's Boris connection and took to Twitter to comment.

"A PROJECT MANAGER FOR WHO???" one person asked as another tweeted: "She worked for Boris Johnson? Well it’s easy to pick who I want to go this week."

A third person posted: "I just want to watch #GBBO without being reminded Boris Johnson exists," while a fourth said: "What do you mean you worked for Boris Johnson!?!?!"

Someone else joked: "Hahahaha imagine admitting to being a project manager for Boris Johnson."

Matt Lucas joked that Dawn has similar hair to Boris Johnson (Channel 4)

And a different person tweeted: "If I were on bake off I would not want my identifier to be 'used to work for Boris Johnson'."

Another viewer added: "One of them worked for Boris? Glad there’s one I don’t mind going home first."

The Great British Bake Off continues at 8pm on Tuesdays on Channel 4.
