PALESTINIANS are running low on basic supplies reports say, as Israel’s illegal blockade on humanitarian aid enters its fourth day.
Israel is accused of war crimes after it stopped the entry of all food and other supplies into Gaza on Sunday. Mediators Egypt and Qatar accused Israel of violating humanitarian law by using starvation as a weapon.
Five Israeli groups have petitioned the country’s Supreme Court, seeking an injunction against the blockade and saying the denial of “critical supplies to two million people, half of whom are children, constitutes a war crime”.
Al Jazeera reporter Hani Mahmoud, who is in Gaza, said: “Absolutely no aid has entered for a fourth day.
“The impact is everywhere. Markets are depleting right now. They’re running out of basic essentials, and whatever is available is too expensive for people to afford.”
He continued: “It’s not just about the food. Hospitals are struggling to operate with little to no medical supplies at all. Doctors have approached us, telling us how they’re running out of basic supplies, antibiotics and painkillers.”
He finished his update by saying: “It’s making their ability to provide medical care quite difficult.”
This follows Arab leaders endorsing Egypt’s post-war regeneration plan for the Gaza Strip that would allow its two million Palestinians to remain in the territory.
Meeting in Cairo on Tuesday, the leaders endorsed a counter-proposal to US president Donald Trump’s plan to depopulate the territory and redevelop it as a beach destination.
According to most recent figures, close to 50,000 Palestinians have died since Israel invaded Gaza in 2023. Conditions are dire in the country, with recent reports saying that babies are dying of hypothermia due to a lack of living space.
