Gaza's largest city is in urgent need of international support to restore basic services following the ceasefire between Israel and Hamas after more than 15 months of war. The local government reported that over 70% of roads in Gaza City have been destroyed, and 60% of residents are currently without a water supply.
The Gaza City municipality emphasized the immediate priorities of the first phase, which include restoring life to the city, securing services, and reopening streets. They have reached out to international organizations, requesting significant quantities of fuel to be allowed into the city to aid in the restoration efforts.

The local government has submitted a list of essential needs to international organizations and is seeking cooperation from entities with relevant expertise to provide services and tools. They highlighted the critical role of technical assistance and maintenance tools in facilitating rescue operations and rebuilding efforts.
The scale of reconstruction required across Gaza is immense and will be a lengthy process. According to the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, approximately 92% of homes in Gaza have been either destroyed or damaged, leaving over 1.8 million people in urgent need of emergency shelter and essential household items.
