He spent days denying his behaviour was bullying - despite his sweary texts and claims he told a civil servant to “slit your throat”.
Last night he finally resigned - but claimed it was only because he'd become a "distraction".
So maybe Gavin Williamson should have listened to this government anti-bullying video... which he recorded himself.
When he was Education Secretary he vowed to “stamp out bullying” in a November 2020 clip, behind text which said “BULLYING IS NEVER ACCEPTABLE”.
He said: “This week, anti-bullying week, is a chance to thank schools and teachers for everything they do to make the classroom a safe place for every child to thrive.
“Bullying is never acceptable.
“Every school must have anti-bullying policies in place so that no pupil fears coming to school or working online.”
Lib Dem Education Spokesperson Munira Wilson said the video had exposed Rishi Sunak's "rank hypocrisy and double standards" after Mr Williamson was allowed to resign, instead of being sacked.
She added: "Gavin Williamson himself admitted that bullying is never acceptable.
"Schools rightly have a zero tolerance approach to bullying. But once again it's one rule for Conservative ministers and another for everyone else.”
Ironically, the clip has already been shared widely once before - because it appeared just before bullying claims emerged against Priti Patel. She was allowed to keep her job by Boris Johnson.
Fresh claims emerged on Tuesday night when Anne Milton, a former Deputy Chief Whip, said Gavin Williamson used “immoral” and “threatening” behaviour and said of an MP in financial difficulty: “I own him”.
Mr Williamson quit less than three hours later.
A former Ministry of Defence official said Mr Williamson had told him to “slit your throat” and “jump out of the window”, and later complained to Parliament's grievance scheme.
The Prime Minister's spokesman described the claims as “serious”. In a statement, Sir Gavin said: "I strongly reject this allegation and have enjoyed good working relationships with the many brilliant officials I have worked with across Government."
