Gavin & Stacey star says 'Christmas has come early' as he joins Strictly special line-up

A Gavin & Stacey star has joined the Strictly Christmas special. Larry Lamb, best known for his iconic role as Mick Shipman in the BBC comedy series, will compete in the 2022 festive episode.

Larry will join the likes of Alexandra Mardell, Rickie Haywood-Williams and Rosie Ramsey for the Christmas one-off that airs on Christmas Day. You can see the line-up in full here.

The actor, who is also known for his role as Archie Mitchell in BBC One's flagship soap EastEnders and his Channel 5 docu-series Britain by Bike, was announced on The One Show on Thursday, December 1.

Larry will be partnered with Strictly Come Dancing professional Nadiya Bychkova, who was partnered with Matt Goss in the 2022 series before the couple were eliminated in week three.

On joining the festive line-up, Larry said: "Christmas has come early! I can't wait to get on the dance floor and learn a brand new skill ready for all those festive parties.

"I am excited yet incredibly nervous but I know Nadiya will look after me, and I look forward to adding a bit of extra sparkle to Christmas Day."

During The One Show, he told hosts Alex Jones and Ronan Keating: "The thing is, what I didn't realise, not only has she got to teach me a dance routine, first thing she's got to teach me is to dance. Cause I don't know how to dance. I've bopped around for years, but nobody's ever told me how to put one foot there and one foot there, so it's a whole new world."

Larry will be hoping to impress judges Craig Revel Horwood, Motsi Mabuse, Anton du Beke and head judge Shirley Ballas who will all be returning for the proceedings. As well as the audience, who will be voting during the episode.

Six celebrities and their professional partners will be joining the line-up, as of yet only four have been announced. Last year singer Anne-Marie won the star-studded Christmas special with her professional dance partner Graziano Di Prima.

Among those in the line-up were presenter Mel Giedroyc, The Repair Shop's Jay Blades, First Dates star Fred Sirieix, newsreader Moira Stuart and radio presenter Adrian Chiles. For more showbiz and television stories get our newsletter here.
