Fans hopes for a new Gavin and Stacey have been flattened after the real reason Pam and Mick were spotted together has been revealed.
Actors Alison Steadman and Larry Lamb were recently seen sitting in deckchairs in front of cameras in Barry Island – sparking comeback rumours.
Telly fans couldn’t believe their eyes when a TikTok video circulated showing the pair soaking up the sun at the iconic filming location in Wales.
“I am begging they are filming another season,” said one viewer who clearly had their sights set on a brand new series of Gavin and Stacey.
The pair play Pamela and Michael, known as Mick, Shipman in the BBC sitcom which first aired in 2007.
Since then, rumours have been rife of a comeback and show fans are jumping at every possible hint of a new series.
The viral TikTok video comes after Alison and Larry were seen in photographs, shared by the Mirror in June, holding souvenirs on the beach front.
Thought to be taken at the same time, the video has only just gone viral – adding to the speculation.
Gavin and Stacey last aired in 2019 when the BBC brought the series back for a one-off Christmas special.
The episode saw all the main characters, including Gavin, played by Mathew Horne and Stacey, played by Joanna Page, reprise their roles.
Unfortunately for fans, the real reason Alison and Larry were on Barry Island has now been revealed.
They were shooting a brand-new series of DNA Journey for ITV and were filming segments in Wales.
They will feature in the second part of the series, airing in Autumn.
Rob Beckett and Romesh Ranganathan, Joel Dommett and Tom Allen, plus Alison Hammond and Kate Garraway will also star in the new series.
Delving into their family histories, the celebrated TV duos will be using cutting edge DNA technology and genealogy to uncover the truth behind their bloodlines.
They will also come face to face with living relatives they never before knew existed.
Katie Rawcliffe, ITV’s head of entertainment commissioning, said: “DNA Journey is an enthralling combination of heart-warming, emotional and high octane all at the same time.
“It’s great to welcome some of TV’s favourite faces onto the show to delve deeper into their family histories and secrets.”
“Everyone has a desire to learn more about where they come from and to be able to share this personal experience with some of our favourite faces is so special and a real treat in the mid-week schedule,” added ITV Commissioning Editor Louise Major.
Kathleen Larkin, executive producer at Voltage TV, said: "It’s always a treat to see our celebrity pairings as you’ve never seen them before.
“In this series, they face particularly emotional revelations…which always end with an uplifting resolution that warms the heart."
A spokesperson at Mitre Studios added: “The great joy of DNA Journey is that our stars have no idea where their trip is going to take them.
“It's an absorbing, involving, voyage of discovery with a secret surprise or twist in every turn.”
