Gaucho Edinburgh restaurant hits back at irate customer over 'Yorkshire pudding row'

In Edinburgh and all over the UK, we love a Sunday roast.

For many, it's a weekend tradition - a good way to wipe away the cobwebs of the excesses of the previous evening and banish the Sunday blues at least for a wee while longer.

We've previously produced a round-up of the best Sunday roasts in Edinburgh - and one option we should also be taking note of is renowned Argentinean steak restaurant Gaucho, on St Andrew Square.

There, they offer a 'bottomless roast', meaning you can enjoy never-ending amounts of meat, vegetables and the all-important Yorkshire puddings - until you get full - for £35 per person.

However, one person to have recently indulged in the attractive offer has launched a scathing review of the restaurant on TripAdvisor, prompting staff to hit back.

Blasting the St Andrew Square eatery with a one star review, the diner complained of 'poor food and service' and said: "Only two bits of meat in your Sunday roast and a board of veg between four.

"That's what they call unlimited and had to wait for it to arrive. When it did the veg was late and warm."

But, responding directly on the travel review site, the Gaucho General Manager explained to the customer his meal was 'unlimited' and that he could have ordered extra meat, as explained to him by the waiter at the time, but instead 'only ordered Yorkshire puddings'.

The full reply said: "Thanks for taking your time to leave us your feedback.

"Our never ending Sunday roast is exactly that, you are given two cuts of meat and a sharing board of all the trimmings, you can then order as much as or a little of anything you wish to be topped up and it's brought to the table when ready.

"So yes, you can have unlimited amounts of meat and trimmings. This waiter explained this to you at the time and also asked if you would like any top ups during the meal to which you only ordered Yorkshire puddings."

Despite the unusual exchange, a glance at TripAdvisor shows Gaucho generally garners good reviews with a 4.5 rating from customers, many who have praised the 'amazing steak and service'.
