Gateshead sex offender sent back to prison after being found with child in his home

A pervert who was caught with a child in his home after being released from prison on licence has been put back behind bars.

Robert Farrow was released from an eight-and-a-half year jail term last year, with a Sexual Harm Prevention Order and strict conditions in place, designed to keep him away from children. But Newcastle Crown Court heard in May this year police went to his home after a tip-off and found a teenage girl there with him.

The 29-year-old, of Milling Court, Gateshead, admitted breach of a Sexual Harm Prevention Order and has now been jailed for ten months.

Prosecutor Jonathon Walker told the court Farrow was locked up in 2016 for three offences of sexual assault on a child as well as making and distributing illegal images. He was released on licence last year but as a result of the new offence has now been recalled to complete that jail term, with an estimated release date of August 2025.

Mr Walker told the court police had received an anonymous phone call in May, which prompted officers to attend Farrow's home and added: "The defendant was asked if there was anyone else present. He said yes.

"He was asked about her age and he said she was 16." The court heard the girl was younger than 16 but prosecutors accepted Farrow's guilty plea on the basis he was unaware of her true age age, though "should have made better enquiries".

Mr Walker added: "He admitted he allowed a female child to enter to listen to music and play on X box."

Sophie Allinson, defending, said Farrow has admitted he "has problems" but added: "There was no desire to commit any sexual offences whatsoever. "He has assumed her to be over 16."

Judge Robert Adams jailed Farrow for ten months and told him: "You said you believed she was over 16 but did not check and deny any sexual intent." The Sexual Harm Prevention Order remains in place for life.
