His basis of plea was not accepted by prosecutors and there will be a trial of issue to determine the facts of what happened, in April.
Mohammed, 24, of Mardale Gardens, Gateshead, who appeared on a video-link from prison and had the assistance of an interpreter in court, was further remanded in custody until then but was told custody is "almost inevitable".
Judge Paul Sloan QC told him: "I'm going to adjourn your case for sentence.
"The sentence hearing and fact finding hearing are listed on April 28 and you will be produced at court on that date.
"You should understand, the fact I'm adjourning sentence and directing the preparation of a pre-sentence report is not an indication of the sentence that will be imposed.
"An immediate custodial sentence is almost inevitable in the circumstances of this case but the actual sentence will be decided by the judge who hears the case in April."
