Gary O'Neil refuses to answer questions on Bournemouth future ahead of Newcastle clash

Bournemouth boss Gary O'Neil batted away questions regarding his future with the Cherries after their defeat to Brighton at the weekend. O'Neil is yet to win since taking permanent charge of the Premier League new boys, with Newcastle United next up on the south coast.

The Cherries have lost seven games in all competitions since football restarted after the winter World Cup in Qatar. O'Neil's side have picked up just one point in that time, a 1-1 draw with Nottingham Forest last month.

Eddie Howe's side are next up at the Vitality Stadium, having won just once in their last five games. Newcastle however, have lost just once this season and are in the Carabao Cup final later this month.

It was close game the last time the two sides met at St. James' Park, with O'Neil in the midst of an interim period in charge following Scott Parker's sacking. The Cherries boss spent 12 games in charge during that period, winning four, drawing four and losing four, but they've been on a dreadful run since his permanent appointment.

The Cherries dropped into the bottom three as a result of their poor form since Christmas. However, O'Neil has stressed he's comfortable with their current position.

When asked about the relegation scrap first, O'Neil told BBC Radio Solent: "There's a long way to go. So, same again next week, let's try and win the football match."

Then, pushed further on his position, the head coach added: "I'm not interested in answering questions on my future. I'm fully comfortable with the situation as it is."
