Gary O'Neil fires safety warning to his Bournemouth players ahead of Leeds United clash

Bournemouth boss Gary O'Neil says it's a "big achievement" to register three away wins on the bounce, but refused to accept that a victory over Leeds United on Sunday will guarantee Premier League safety.

The Cherries climbed seven points clear of danger by defeating rock-bottom Southampton 1-0 at St Mary's on Thursday night.

Marcus Tavernier scored just five minutes after the restart to guide Bournemouth to three straight wins on the road in the Premier League for the first time in their history.

Leeds travel to the Vitality Stadium to face Bournemouth on Sunday aiming to end a run of four games without a win. Meanwhile, Bournemouth could climb 10 points clear of the bottom three with a win prior to Leicester City's crunch match against Everton on Monday.

"The group of players that we have and their mentality. Not only their mentality because they've shown quality in there as well. You don't go away to Leicester, Tottenham and Southampton and win without quality," O'Neil told BT Sport.

"It's a run that the players should be proud of. To win away in the Premier League is tough, to do it three times on the trot is a big achievement.

O'Neil added: "I'm not sure. I don't know [if beating Leeds will secure safety], I can see 36 still going down so where we are at the moment, I can see that finishing in the bottom three.

"So there's no celebration going on in there. Sunday is going to come quickly, we need to be ready. Let's try to win the next five and then I'm sure we'll be ok."
