Gary Neville slams Todd Boehly’s Chelsea transfer strategy amid Wesley Fofana and De Jong talks

Gary Neville has compared Chelsea's transfer strategy to a 'pinball' machine as he is the latest to question Todd Boehly's plans amid Wesley Fofana and Frenkie de Jong talks.

The Blues' transfer window has really heated up since their tour of the United States. Both Raheem Sterling and Kalidou Koulibaly were while the Blues were in the US, and Marc Cucurella was the latest to commit to Thomas Tuchel's project as his £63million total move from Brighton was confirmed on Friday. All three took part in the Everton game but in different capacities with each of the trio showcasing just why Boehly spent big on securing each of their services.

With all factors taken into consideration in relation to potential incomings and outgoings before the September 1 deadline, it is expected that the American and Clearlake will aim to spend close to £300million this summer. Chelsea have had two bids rejected already for Wesley Fofana and will likely have to make him the world's most expensive defender if Leicester continue to stand firm.

Moving up the pitch, Chelsea are expected to ramp up their efforts to sign £70million-rated Frenkie de Jong but this deal relies on the players' will to sort out the current financial and contractual situation with Barca before he potentially gives them the 'green light'.

Then in attack, another forward is likely to be signed with Timo Werner's permanent move to RB Leipzig imminent. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is currently the hottest name on the agenda in that sense.

Thomas Tuchel and some of the player have already commented on how pleased they are with the recruitment so far this summer but from outside the Chelsea remit, many pundits and rival fans have been questioning this summer spending spree.

One of those people are well known pundit Neville who has compared Boehly's transfer strategy to a 'pinball' machine. "So, they were so close last season in difficult circumstances," he told the Sky Sports' Gary Neville podcast after the Super Sunday fixture between West Ham and Man City.

"And I know that Chelsea fans are probably thinking, well we've signed Koulibaly, we've signed Sterling, we've signed Cucurella. They are getting players in but it just seems a little bit pinball type.

"Your head is moving like where is it going to be next, you are not quite sure. We've just watched a team today that are a machine in Man City. Chelsea are not at that phase yet as you can tell. New ownership, I think it will take a little bit of time to settle down but it was a really good start and good win."

"During these moments, the way you shut people up like me is just to win."
