Gary Neville has denied claims from former England colleague Jamie Carragher that he continues to be paid by former club Manchester United.
United's owners, the Glazer, family have come under intense scrutiny of late. A protest took place around the Premier League opener against Brighton, while further action is planned in advance of the next home game, against Carragher's old club Liverpool.
Carragher, who is a regular alongside Neville in the Sky Sports studio, suggested his fellow pundit would be comfortable taking money from the club in an ambassadorial role. However, the claim was met with a swift rebuttal.
"I’m thinking you will call for the Glazers to sell the club, after not saying it once while they paid you," Carragher tweeted. Neville responded by reminding his colleague of United's dominance during the period in question, making reference to his team "battering your lot [Liverpool] and winning league title after league title".
Carragher hit back, claiming those titles were down to the presence of Sir Alex Ferguson in the dugout. "Because of SAF, so if you get another top manager the Glazers are fine to stay!" he said "You still getting paid as an ambassador"
"That’s a lie!" was Neville's response. "Not been paid a penny from the club in 11 years!!"

Back in June, Neville took aim at the Glazers in a big way. At the time, United were coming off the back of an underwhelming sixth-place finish in the Premier League, with the owners set to receive millions of pounds in dividends.
"That’s why Dividends have to stop for a period," Neville said. "Every penny has to go back into the club until it becomes attractive again. The club has become a graveyard for players. Culturally for owners to take [money] out of a poorly performing business is demoralising!"
"The Glazer Family should NOT be taking £11m in dividends this Friday," he said in an earlier post. "It isn’t right with the investment needed in the team, stadium and training ground.
"The clubs cash position is low compared to previous years. An announcement is needed to halt it for the next three years minimum." Neville, who captained United during his playing days, has also previously hit out at the owners for their European Super League involvement.
"Generally, the Glazer family along with a number of other families of football owners in this country were conniving and scheming behind the rest of football’s back to walk away with the crown jewels and today we’ve seen people protest at that and the fact this game is delayed is because of that," he said in 2021.
