Gary Neville slams Boris Johnson for bringing up Jimmy Savile in Parliament

Gary Neville has slammed Prime Minister Boris Johnson for bringing up infamous child sex offender Jimmy Savile in Parliament.

The former Manchester United captain was left stunned as Johnson attempted to shift attention away from partygate in the House of Commons by bringing up Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer 's 'failure to prosecute' Savile, who died in 2011 before reports of his grotesque abuse came to light, before going into politics.

The Prime Minister's widely-condemned comments came off the back of Sue Gray's report into the parties attended by a host of Conservative politicians - including Johnson - during the global pandemic, flouting their own Covid-19 guidelines to the anger of the nation.

Neville, who has called for the Tory leader to resign on many occasions and recently joined the Labour Party, tweeted: "He's a disgrace. Has he just used the name of Jimmy Savile in the Houses of Parliament? Go FFS!"

He later followed with a tweet which read: "Kier Starmer calmly destroyed Boris Johnson today. If the Conservatives MPs weren't wobbling before they must be ready to turn now. This is only going to get worse."

After being grilled by much of the House following the findings of the long-awaited report, Johnson shocked members and the watching public by desperately lashing out at Starmer.

"The report does absolutely nothing to substantiate the tissue of nonsense that he has said. Absolute nonsense," Johnson said, with Gray's findings stating there was a 'failure of leadership and judgement' at No.10.

"Instead this leader of the opposition, a former director of public prosecution - who used his time prosecuting journalists and failing to prosecute Jimmy Savile, as far as I can see - he chose to use this moment to continually pre-judge a police inquiry."

The PM's controversial suggestion has been described as "not true" by an ex-chief prosecutor and is also contrary to the findings of an independent fact-checking organisation.

It is not the first time that Johnson has felt Neville's wrath, with the former United and England right-back criticising him after more evidence of the parties emerged back in December.

"We've seen it for the last two years. This guy lacks integrity. He lies to us constantly. The mistruths that come out of number 10 are just constant," Neville blasted.

"Not only that but he's the worst kind of leader. Someone who expects his team to go under with him and come out and lie for him. His ministers and his MPs are constantly forced to do that and enough is enough.

"It's not even about a party or a social gathering on December 18. Or a secret Santa or a cheese and wine. It's about actually having a guy at the top of our country who believes he can take us all for a ride and laugh at us.

"He does it time after time after time. This cannot be let go. Now is the time to get this guy out of number 10 and start bringing some standards back into politics."
