Marcus Rashford’s attitude in the warm-up of Manchester United’s League Cup clash with Burnley on Wednesday is evidence that the striker is back on the right path, according to Gary Neville.
Despite England’s agonising World Cup quarter-final loss to France, the 25-year-old was seen smiling and enjoying himself ahead of kick-off. Rashford ended up increasing his club tally to nine goals in the 2-0 triumph during what has been an impressive comeback season.
The forward finished as England’s joint-top scorer in Qatar with three goals to his name, which included an arrowed, dipping free-kick in the 3-0 win over Wales. His striking of the ball has been noted by Neville, who outlined that the right wing position he occupied against Burnley is not his favoured position yet he still made the most of his outing.

Speaking about the goal to Sky Sports, he said: “That power he puts on it, that dip he puts on his free-kicks, he’s now started to put that into his game. I actually think that’s the hardest of positions, on the right, that Marcus plays.
“I think he’s better centrally and he’s better on the left certainly. On the right at times it is difficult for him but he looks more enthusiastic and willing to play there at this moment in time, makes the best of it.”
Neville also suggested that Rashford’s mood in the lead-up to the game was very telling. After a confidence-sapping season last term, Rashford looks a revived player under new United manager Erik ten Hag.
Neville mooted that regaining his positive mentality so soon after his recent heartbreak with England is a good sign. He added: “I thought he’s happy in the warm-up, he looked like he was ready to come back.
“You think about the World Cup and the impact it will have had on some of these teams. You’ve got Brazilians out there, some of the English lads out there, obviously with disappointment to be knocked out in the quarter-final games.
“He’s come back, looked like he’s happy, and it’s a good start from them, a good warm-up game to get back into the Premier League.” United next face Nottingham Forest in the league on Tuesday at Old Trafford.
