Gary Neville sends warning to Glazers over selling Man Utd to US investors Apollo

Gary Neville has hit out at the Glazers by suggesting that potential Manchester United takeover candidates Apollo would not be welcome in the city.

Rumours have been swirling in recent days that the club's current owners would be open to selling a portion of their majority stake in order to inject further investment at Old Trafford. A number of interested parties have been touted - Britain's richest man Sir Jim Ratcliffe chief among those having expressed his interest in potentially completing a majority takeover further down the line.

Meanwhile, New York-based private equity firm Apollo has been revealed to be in talks with the Glazers over a potential deal - discussions at this moment in time focused on how much the likes of Kevin, Bryan, Darcie and Edward Glazer would all accept for their shares in the club, whilst Joel and Avram currently have no interest in relinquishing their control of the Old Trafford giants.

Amid the suggestions, Neville has hit out by claiming that Apollo would not receive a warm welcome in Manchester should it complete a deal in the near future.

Taking to Twitter, the Red Devils icon said: "If the reports are true that the Glazer Family are ready to part sell ahead of a full sale it's totally unacceptable that this is to a US investment fund. Apollo has been mentioned but they need to know they will not be welcomed in Manchester."

He continued: "The US model of sports ownership is all about significant return on investment (at all cost ie. Super League and Big Picture).

"The ownership model in England needs to change and US money is a bigger danger to that than any other international money. We need a regulator asap!"

Neville is not the only one to take exception to Apollo potentially investing in the Red Devils in the near future. A fan group called "Boycott Movement Against the Glazers" penned an open letter to Apollo speaking out against a potential deal and warning that they will attempt to "tarnish" the company's reputation.
