Gary Neville sends title warning to Arsenal fan in spiky Twitter exchange

Gary Neville has warned Arsenal that they “haven’t won the league yet” after revealing on Twitter that he still doesn’t think they will be crowned as champions come the end of the season.

The Gunners have enjoyed a sensational season so far under Mikel Arteta and currently lead the Premier League with a five-point advantage over nearest challengers Manchester City. The two sides come together on Wednesday evening in a game that looks likely to be pivotal in deciding the destination of the trophy come the end of the campaign.

Despite that, Neville remains unconvinced after revealing that he still does not believe the Gunners will be champions. The Manchester United icon revealed his thoughts in a spiky social media exchange with an Arsenal fan on Friday morning after he was criticised for his views on the Gunners on Sky Sports’ The Overlap.

The tweet from the supporter read: “What I like about @Carra23 [Jamie Carragher] is he changes his opinions with new info. Think we’ve all been surprised and impressed by [Lisandro] Martinez speaking honestly.

“@GNev2 [Gary Neville] on the other hand? Just doubles down and talks with emotion rather than logic. Shame as he used to be half decent.”

Neville then responded with a word of warning that there is still a long way of the season left to go. The former defender replied: “You haven’t won the league yet my friend. You have 18 games left.

“You any idea how hard it is to win a league with that many games left? I’ll happily change my mind when I think you will win it!”

Despite Neville’s claim, he has over recent weeks admitted that Arsenal are actually in his thoughts when it comes to predicting the eventual champions. "Do you know something, we were at the City game on Sunday and when the team came through I thought for the first time that Arsenal could win the league", the former Manchester United defender told The Overlap.

"And that’s not looking smart after the event because City had lost, but I just thought he [Guardiola] is messing around, he’s tinkering far too much.

"I don’t know why Kevin De Bruyne isn’t playing, I don’t know why Ilkay Gundogan is not playing, I don’t know why Ruben Dias is not back in the centre of that defence with Aymeric Laporte to make them solid. I saw the team and I thought, from the point of view of my prediction – which is that City will catch Arsenal – I was less sure on Sunday than I’ve ever been.

He added: "I still think City will win the league, but the fact we’re even talking about Arsenal winning the league is a miracle from where I thought they would be at the end of last season."
