Gary Neville sends 'ridiculous' warning to Granit Xhaka after Trent Alexander-Arnold clash during Liverpool vs Arsenal

Gary Neville questioned the 'ridiculous' actions of Granit Xhaka after the Arsenal midfielder clashed with Trent Alexander-Arnold during the Premier League match against Liverpool on Easter Sunday.

With Arsenal leading 2-0 at Anfield, Xhaka appeared to collide needlessly with Liverpool full-back Alexander-Arnold. Mohamed Salah then pulled a goal back for the hosts within seconds.

And Sky Sports pundit Neville was infuriated by Xhaka after the incident sparked a 'sleeping' Anfield into life.

Neville said: ''I mean what is he thinking though, Xhaka? Two nil up away at Anfield, throws his arm or something into Trent. Just ridiculous. Trent reacts and then the crowd gets up, the ball’s already gone. It’s two nil, moments before half-time.

''Why would he? He cannot get involved, he cannot get involved. He’s been so good for Arsenal this season, that’s exactly what Liverpool would want.

''When this crowd is sleeping, don’t wake them up. Leave them be. Xhaka woke the crowd up.''

''I just can’t understand why he did that at all. That would have been a huge part of Mikel Arteta’s team talk before the game, maybe even the fact that some of the players are going down wasting a bit of time, sensible option, but this crowd is up now.''

Former Manchester United full-back Neville also sent a message to Alexander-Arnold after the clash.

He added: ''He’s got to be careful, Trent Alexander-Arnold, because he is fired up. To be fair though, it’s the most aggressive I’ve seen him in five years. Maybe he should get kicked a little bit more. ''
